Can I use a softbox for filming?

Absolutely. Recently, we have been observing more and more often that the applications reserved for photography are penetrating into the world of film. The light fixture SOFTBOX 40x60cm is an excellent alternative to budget versions of panel lamps (so-called kinoflo). The cost of such a solution is significantly lower, while the effect achieved remains the same.

What's the difference between an octagonal softbox and a rectangular one?

The easiest way to tell them apart is by looking at the shape of reflections on reflective surfaces. This is especially noticeable in portrait and fashion photography - the octagonal shape, similar to circular, mimics solar reflections. Octagonal softboxes also have better light distribution (especially when lighting from the front).

What should you remember about?

  1. Softboxes "work" best at short distances. Place them as close as possible to the illuminated persons or objects, right on the edge of the frame.
  2. The larger the diameter of the softbox, the softer the tonal transition between light and shadow.
  3. If you have to shine from a long distance - remove the diffusive fabric. You will then get even more light.

CineGEN® — studio equipment designed by practitioners

CineGEN® is a Polish studio equipment brand we created in 2011 in Janki near Warsaw. We don't have 35 years of tradition or offices on two continents — what we do have is around 40,000 orders with CineGEN® products fulfilled every year and 15 years of working with light, which taught us what actually works in a studio.

The brand was born for a simple reason: selling other people's equipment, we too often had to explain flaws we had no control over. We preferred taking responsibility to making excuses — so we started building our own.

How we work

Specifications and part of the designs are created in Poland; manufacturing takes place in China, under our supervision. We say this openly, because that's how studio equipment is made all over the world today. The difference lies in who sets the requirements and who answers for the result: every batch arrives at our warehouse in Janki, where we inspect it, and before a product enters our catalogue, we work with it ourselves — on packshots, portraits and video shoots.

Our product descriptions state real parameters and real limitations. A 200 PLN lamp won't replace a 2,000 PLN kit — and we won't pretend otherwise.
