Softboxes are a fundamental element of a photographic studio. They are used to modify the properties of light: the size of the luminous surface, intensity, and direction of light. Recently, they have gained popularity in video productions as well. An excellent alternative to kinoflo lights. Softboxes soften tonal transitions between light and shadow.
Tip: Most lighting issues within a frame often result from an excess of light rather than its absence. When setting up your lighting, start with the lamps that have the smallest contribution to the entire scene - set the key (main) light last.
Lighting Fixture
The lighting fixture consists of a quadruple E27 bulb holder and a softbox hood (reflective and diffusing fabric, as well as tensioning rods). The shape of the hood is designed to ensure that the maximum amount of light reaches the diffusion fabric.
The softbox is made from high-quality materials used by leading manufacturers. Internally, it is finished with a silver, metallic reflective surface, which prevents light emission backward and sideways while reflecting it in the desired direction - onto the diffusing fabric. This ensures that the maximum amount of light reaches the photographed object.
The softbox is designed to work with four bulbs with a maximum power of 85W/400W each. It allows for stepped power regulation by turning on/off pairs of bulbs (two switches): 0%-50%-100%. The set attaches to lighting stands using a bracket that provides any angle adjustment.
Lighting Fixture Rear Panel
Controlling the lamp is very simple and limited to two switches that turn on either the left or right pair of lamps. A 3A fuse is located in the socket marked "FUSE." In the central part, there is an opening for mounting an optional umbrella.
CGLS-802 Studio Stand
A lightweight, studio and outdoor, three-section lighting stand. Maximum height of 230cm, working height of 220 cm, convenient section clamps, a 16mm studio head with a universal 1/4" thread. The stand is designed to work with small and medium lamps as well as lighting sets. It will also perform well in configurations with flash and continuous lights, softboxes, RedHead halogen lamps.
Its dimensions when folded have been reduced by the use of a telescopic folding mechanism, thus not limiting its wide range of operation (from 78 to 220 cm, adjustable smoothly at any height) and versatility. The leg spread (from foot to foot) is 75cm.

This fluorescent bulb generates light with a color ideal for photographic applications - it does not introduce any color bias. Thanks to its natural color rendering, the bulb is perfect for photographers working under continuous lighting. Using constant lighting allows you to model light faster and better predict the final result on your photos. The low power consumption enables using this bulb in both open fixtures and partially closed ones (softboxes, diffusers, octas). The luminous flux of the 85W bulb corresponds to a 400W halogen lamp.

Can I use a softbox for filming?
Absolutely. Recently, we've been observing an increasing trend of photographic applications being used in the world of film. The SOFTBOX 60x60cm constant light fixture is an excellent alternative to budget panel lamp versions (so-called kinoflo). This solution is significantly cheaper while achieving the same effect.
What's the difference between an octagonal and rectangular softbox?
The easiest way to spot a difference is by looking at the shape of reflections on reflective surfaces. This is particularly noticeable in portraiture and fashion photography - the octagonal shape, similar to circular, mimics solar reflections. Octagonal softboxes also feature better light distribution (especially when lighting from the front).
What should you keep in mind?
- Softboxes work best at short distances. Place them as close to the illuminated subjects or objects, right on the edge of the frame.
- The larger the softbox diameter, the softer the tonal transition between light and shadow.
- If you need to illuminate from a large distance - remove the diffusing fabric. This will give you even more light.

How to assemble the SOFTBOX / OCTA lamp?
The lamp will arrive in a package containing: separately, the stand, bulbs, fixture, and softbox. Assembling the lamp involves several steps:
- Remove the softbox from its cover, the tensioning rods for the softbox, and the diffusing fabric. Set aside the diffusing fabric.
- From the box marked CGLX4, remove the lighting fixture. On the outer edge of the fixture (black plastic), there are eight holes.
- Insert the glass fiber rods into the openings in the lighting fixture. It's important to insert the rods with their THICKER end into the fixture. They should go in with a slight resistance.
- Lay the softbox fabric (hood) on the floor so that the black material touches the floor, and the silver side faces upward. Leave the Velcro straps unfastened.
- Place the lighting fixture onto the silver surface. Insert the thinner ends of the rods into the pockets sewn into the corners of the softbox hood.
- As you insert more rods, the softbox hood will start to tighten on the bending rods. It may be necessary to use a small amount of force, especially with octagonal softboxes.
- After assembling the hood, spread out the lighting stand and attach the fixture to it. Tighten the butterfly screws and fasten the Velcro straps at the back of the hood.
- Secure the bulbs in the fixture.
- Attach the diffusing fabric by fastening it with Velcro to the hood.
