FAQs
Can I use a softbox for filming?
Absolutely! We're seeing an increasing trend of photography techniques being used in the film industry. The FlatLight™ DOUBLE-66682 softbox provides a cost-effective alternative to budget panel light versions (known as kinoflo). This solution offers similar results at a significantly lower price.
What's the difference between an octagonal and rectangular softbox?
The most noticeable difference is in the shape of reflections on reflective surfaces. This is particularly evident in portrait and fashion photography, where the octagonal shape mimics circular sunlight reflections. Octagonal softboxes also offer a better light distribution (especially when lighting from the front).
What should I keep in mind?
- Softboxes work best at close distances. Position them as close to your subjects or objects as possible, right on the edge of the frame.
- The larger the softbox diameter, the softer and more gradual the tonal transition between light and shadow will be.
- If you need to illuminate from a greater distance, remove the diffusive fabric. This will give you even more light output.
